A – STAR Method.

Duration: 1 HOUR.

In this lesson, you will learn.

What is the “A” in the STAR Method and how to apply it during a job interview.

The “A” in the STAR Method stands for Action.

This refers to the specific steps you took to address the situation or task at hand. In an interview, when using the STAR formula to answer questions, it’s important to describe the actions you took in detail, demonstrating your ability to think critically and take decisive action.

The interviewer wants to understand your thought process and approach to problem-solving. They are interested in the specific actions you took to address the situation, as well as the rationale behind those actions.

Here’s an essential Tip!

When discussing the actions you took in your answer, be sure to provide enough detail so that the interviewer can fully understand your approach. This could include information about the specific tasks you performed, any decisions you made, and any resources you used to complete the task.

Let’s look at an example of and “A” question with an example answer.

Question: Can you tell me about a time when you had to handle a difficult customer complaint?

Answer: The actions you took might be described as follows:
“I listened to the customer’s concerns and empathized with their frustration. Then, I carefully reviewed their order and identified the issue. I offered them a refund and expedited a replacement product to be shipped immediately.”

By clearly describing the actions you took, you demonstrate your ability to take initiative and problem-solve in a challenging situation. You can also showcase your communication skills and customer service abilities by highlighting how you addressed the customer’s concerns and provided a satisfactory resolution.
